mirrormont container adu

place: mirrormont, issaquah, WA
program: 2 bed/2 bath ADU at heavily forested site with a strong emphasis on sustainability.

Nestled within a lush, forested landscape in Mirrormont, this shipping container ADU embodies sustainable design and thoughtful reuse. Two retired shipping containers, repurposed and connected by a wood-framed link, form the foundation of this innovative dwelling. Designed to complement the existing primary residence and shared gathering spaces, it offers a private retreat within a communal environment.

Reclaimed materials, sourced from architectural salvage yards across Seattle, breathe new life into the city’s built environment. Permaculture principles guide every decision, from closed-loop systems to material reuse, ensuring deep sustainability throughout.

The design harmonizes with its woodland surroundings, using natural materials and a form language that blends into the forest’s rhythm. More than an ADU, it stands as a statement of resourcefulness, stewardship, and the belief that sustainability and beauty can coexist in every detail.
