The earth and sea spa is located in an intimate commercial space in the heart of Vashon Island. The concept is based on a client-driven desire for a place-based experience that connects visitors experientially with the island’s natural beauty. The design seeks to fuse the grounding qualities of earth with the serene expansiveness of the sea through materials, light, and sound-driven details.

The Earth and Sea Spa will be an ode to the Pacific Northwest’s diverse landscapes, from lush rainforests to rugged coastlines. The project aims to use locally sourced, sustainable materials to construct a space that integrates with its local context. Wood from sustainable forests, stones from nearby quarries, and botanicals from the region’s lush flora will be woven into every aspect of the spa’s design. As the name alludes, the transition from the therapy spaces will be keyed by their relationship from Earth to Sea. The spaces infuse the relaxing hydrotherapy experience with the local vashon island community.

The spa itself represents more than just a therapeutic space; it’s design is an ode to the natural world.
