firm

studio hagen is a pacific northwest based architecture and design firm focusing on designing place-based spaces. We are licensed to provide professional architectural services for projects of all scales and typologies nationally.

We connect inside and outside design to foster a meaningful connection between context and site by pulling inspiration from our natural surroundings. We strive to work with our environment  (“place-keep”), and not compete with it (“place-make”). Our work finds the spirit of the place through the use of scalable details, intentional materials, and collaborative design. Each project is a balance of intuition and new solutions where we listen and learn to create simple and fun design solutions.

Our process is guided by storytelling and ownership by our clients and existing conditions, where we curate layered spaces and experiences. We blend and balance wants, needs, curiosities, and best practices to provide unique and functional design.

studio hagen is a certified woman-owned small business.

people

Emily Hagen Larkin, AIA LEED Green Associate, is a licensed architect with over a decade of commercial and residential design experience in the Pacific Northwest. She enjoys all scales of design -

‘Big’ - Emily is a thought-leader, and has been invited to lectured nationally and internationally on innovative building practices, including advancements to the world of mass timber. Her award-winning conceptual design for a timber high-rise building was published in the book “Timber in the City”.

‘Small’ - To stay immersed in the tactility of design, Emily is a hobbyist woodworker who enjoys making small objects from wood collected from hikes and job sites. These pieces vary in functionality and form, but are designed to connect people to nature through a simple handshake.

studio hagen also includes an efficient cast of characters that includes interns, contract-workers, and trusted consultants. The needs of each project are different and our team adjusts to provide the quality of design and service as appropriate.
