budga bath renovation
place: west seattle, seattle, WA
program: shared primary and guest bathroom - portion of an ongoing full home renovation.
The Budga Bath Renovation project transformed a shared primary and guest bathroom in a West Seattle residence. The renovation made efficient use of space by converting an unused closet into a new toilet nook, which allowed for the addition of a double vanity and created a more generous and functional layout. The design emphasizes natural materials and thoughtful details, with a focus on intentional lighting and materials to create a tranquil space.
Warm, nature-inspired tactile-rich materials define the space, featuring heavily textured microcement walls, wood-like porcelain tiles and a custom fir vanity as standout elements. The vanity was designed with integrated cove finger pulls and a matching live-edge shelf, creating a warm nature-inspired aesthetic connecting the rest of the home’s palette. Lighting was an important design element, and the project incorporated warm lighting into a backlit mirror and recessed niche in the shower for low-lit baths, with a brighter task pendant at the vanity.
New fluted glass windows were installed to complement both function and form. A taller window dips lower and offers views out and fresh air during baths, while a shorter upper window provides shower ventilation (and a connection to the backyard to peek out while the couple’s dog is playing!). The combination of design, materiality, and lighting ensures a space that is both beautiful and deeply connected to its surroundings.
